The decision to become a Minister is not one that should be taken lightly. It is a life-altering commitment to a path of self-realization, spiritual enlightenment, and service to humanity. In order to be considered for the training to become a Minister at the Spirit of the Lotus, you must regularly attend Church services for at least one year, and must attend a minimum of four different classes given by the Church (these classes vary in length from 4 to 8 weeks).
The Minister Program itself last for 6 months. During these 6 months, there are 1-2 classes per week which lasts 1-2 hours. Homework includes not just reading, but gazing, breathing, visualization, and meditation exercises which must be done by the trainees. Multiple short essays are required as is a term paper at the end of the 6 months. Once ordained, Ministers at the Spirit of the Lotus will be given certain responsibilities including leading Church services and classes. Service to the community, which can take very different forms, is required, and all Ministers must attend the yearly Retreats offered by the Spirit of the Lotus.
